February on Thistle Hill Farm

This last week felt like springtime!

Snow has been melting like crazy, as has the horse poop.  To the delight of the dogs!  From the throw-up to the muddy floors...I mean, yay for Spring but ick to ick!

Our four handsome gents enjoyed the springtime conditions by catching warm sunny cat naps a plenty.  With the nice weather, we've been able to bring Mr. Beans to the community arena for a couple of nice evenings.  I'm still working on building my confidence since my fall in July.  It's a slow go but I'll get there!  Or maybe we'll just continue to walk-about - that's fine, too!

Les chicks have enjoyed pecking and hopping and bopping about.  With the gradual lengthening of days, their egg production is up.  Nature's way of telling us spring is on the way!

The cat is not one for the cold winter months but with the warm weather she's gotten out to roll on the warm pavement of the driveway and to hunt a couple of mice.

The dogs are enjoying the mud puddles and ponds that have formed all over our property.  They're having fun trying to make friends with the wildlife that comes through on a regular basis.  I'm not sure the geese an ducks enjoy their attempts at friendship!

I'm starting seeds and ordering seedlings for our vegetable and flower garden.  I'm rolling the idea around in my head of starting a new south facing garden for tomatoes and peppers.  I'm also measuring and designing our front garden - it'll finally be planted!  Maybe.

I designed a Garden Journal for myself this year.  I usually write notes down on Post-its.  They mostly get lost or eaten by Pepper.  I'm hoping this journal will keep everything in one place and not get eaten by Pepper.  I can't wait to receive it from the printers to see what it looks like!

I'm currently reading "Horse Speak" by Sharon Wilsie & Gretchen Vogel.  It's all about how to enhance communication between human and horse through body language and behavioural cues.

Snow is 'scheduled' to arrive tomorrow but now that we've all had a taste of Spring we're ready for her to arrive for realsies!

Here's to dirty hands,

Jody
